A+ Certification Advice

A+ Certified, Rocky Hamilton

This is one of my favorite subjects.  Someone asked me recently how hard I thought the test was, or how hard I thought it was to get the certification.  This is how I see it:

On a scale of 1-10 to become certified, it's a 7.  I
think that if you get the books to study  for A+ Certification, you can pass it.  They offer this course in college, and it is a prereq for many other certifications, like from Microsoft (MCSE or MCP) or Cisco.  So it's a great starting point.

I will share a great website with you.  Get this guy's extra info CD-rom ( I think it costs $12. includes shipping), he's dedicated to helping people pass this test:

 http://www.pctechnoids.com/

He is always keeping up with the latest info on
Certification which is about to change, check in your area if they are giving the new test or the original.  He recently emailed me and said he was working on another Cd-rom, I'm going to get it because this guy is so sharp!  He'll send you
the password to his website if you buy the Cd-rom, and you'll get to check out the "braindumps" area.  This is very beneficial for the test.

You can read more about all the testing at

 www.2test.com

Prometric is the place to schedule and you can find out where the test is offered in your area.  The best advice I can give you is what the guy at Pctechnoids wrote:
take the tests (Win/dos and Core) at 2 different times, not all at once.  I did, I'm really glad I did.  I scheduled them about a week apart.  This takes a lot of pressure off of you.

The whole studying experience is well worth it,
you will learn a lot.  The two books that I relied on:
Meyers A+ Exam guide, and Que's Upgrading and
Repairing PCs, both at CompUSA.  Amazon.com
has some good selections with a critique of  how
well they cover the subjects.  There are many other new books to assist you in passing this test.

I put most of my time into the Cd-rom from Pctechnoids and his website and from Meyers guide.   You can do it!  You'll have a whole new confidence.  I hope you get to take the old test, it isn't going to cover so many operating systems.  The new test is going to include Linux, Windows 2000.  These are two operating systems that I don't know yet; Maybe that's not a problem for you, especially since you have Windows 2000 on your computer.

I just bought the MCSE Windows 2000 professional
book to challenge that test.  The sky is the limit if you're willing to put in the time with the books, and the software.

Check out that website and 2test, and find out what your testing facility is offering.  IF the old test is available, and it's suppose to be until the end of March, do it now.  This may go longer, I haven't checked into it lately.  The testing center here had no clue about when the new test was going to be available.

I do want people to realize that getting your A+ certification isn't the most important element to establish a business in the computer industry.  You can have this certification and not fully understand computer repair.  I urge anyone who is serious about this type of work to get as much experience as you can, and to talk to as many other experienced technicians as you can.  There are many things that are not written in a book to learn...Keep Learning!

Good Luck!  I know you can do it!
