Useful Tips (General)

***Keep a dripping faucet from driving you crazy by tying a string around the end of the spout ( it should be long enough to reach the drain) Until you can fix the faucet, the water will flow down the string silently instead of dripping.

Thanks, Great tips, Mom!  I'm going to put these on my website.
Check these out everybody.  Rocky

*** Unstick stacked glasses: by pouring cold water into the top glass, then placing both glasses into warm water for a minute or two.

*** To keep necklace chains from tangling in a jewelry box; slip each through a plastic straw cut in half, then close the clasp.

*** Need organization in he bathroom: hang a shoe organizer on the back of the closet door to hold soaps, lotions, brushes, and such.

*** For easier needle threading: spritz thread ends with hair spray to stiffen them for easier threading.

*** Keep a small magnet in your sewing kit to use to pick up wayward pins & needles.

*** Cut the back pocket off a pair of jeans, attach a magnet to it and put it on the frig to hold coupons, tickets, notes,

*** To remove candle wax; put the holder in the freezer for 20 minutes. The wax will chip right off.

*** Remove stubborn price stickers by warming the glue with a blow dryer blowing slowly back & forth over it.

*** If you need a ruler, remember that a dollar bill is about 6 & 1/8 inches long..

*** Rub bathroom mirrors with shaving cream and wipe off with a soft cloth to cut down on post-shower fogging.

*** Clean narrow, stained bottles and vases with water and dropping a denture cleaner tablet in. Let set and rinse out.

*** Revive cut flowers by recutting the ends ,changing the water, and add a couple of drops of bleach to the water to keep the water from turning rancid.
*** Store garden tools such as spades and shovels in a bucket of sand to prevent rust and keep sharp.

*** Plant basil, bay leaves, cloves and mint in flower beds near the house to discourage flies and insects.

*** Use a clean metal shoehorn to scrape corn kernels from the the cob. IT is the perfect shape and no sharp knives.

*** Make cupcakes lunch box friendly by slicing them in half and placing the icing in the middle.

*** Keep freezer nearly full and it will use less energy.

*** To open tight lids on small bottles , a nutcracker is the right size.

*** To get rid of the smell of garlic on the hands; rub hands with coffee grounds, then rinse.

*** Use a clean pair of scissors to 'dice' tomatoes right in the can.  Also great to cut up chicken pieces or bacon. But never use the scissors for anything but food.

*** To skim the fat off of soup or broth; throw in a few cubes if ice.  Remove the cubes to which the fat will be clinging after a few minutes.

*** If you have to remember something but don't want to tie a string around your finger, place your watch on the opposite wrist. The change will remind you.

*** Feel a draft in the room ? Walk around the house carrying a lighted candle; when it flickers, you've found the spot.

*** A good way to split foods between siblings: Let one slice and the other pick first .

*** Wash windows horizontally on the inside and vertically on the outside. That way you can tell which side needs the streaks wiped.

*** Latex gloves remove pet hair from upholstery.  Just put on the glove and run fabric in ONE direction, working toward the edge of the item.( If you rub back & forth, the pet hair will move with the glove.)
